Unconditional Love

What is Unconditional Love?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconditional_love states:

Unconditional love is a term that means to love someone regardless of one’s actions or beliefs. It is a concept comparable to true love, a term which is more frequently used to describe love between lovers. By contrast, unconditional love is frequently used to describe love between family members, comrades in arms and between others in highly committed relationships. It has also been used in religious context to describe God’s love for humankind.

I have found that it is easier to unconditionally love someone else, a spouse or a child for example than it is to unconditionally love yourself. In fact, I have found that I am the hardest on myself.

While it is most certainly good to evaluate yourself from time to time as you should be constantly trying to improve yourself, you need to give yourself the same kind of break you give to others.

This has been a problem for me in the past and I am sure it is currently a problem. I am however aware of the problem and I am working on it.

What has caused me to actively work on it? Was it my desire to better myself? Initially, it was NOT my desire to better myself. So, what was my initial reason for taking this task on?

My initial reason was my wife’s desire for me to believe in myself.  I started trying to believe more in myself for her and it ended up helping me. By being unselfish and being willing to change to help my wife I am starting to see the difference in myself.

I think this is the way a lot of things work. If you take your eyes off of yourself and do something just because it will help someone else (even if you don’t know them personally, even if you have never seen them again) it will help you to help others.

Then once you realize that YOU are changing, YOU can FOCUS MORE ON CHANGING YOUR SELF while continuing to help others. In the beginning your desire to change can be because of someone else but at some point it must be because you realize that you are worthy of the change. You are important and Heavenly Father knows it. He is willing to offer you his help and love if you will just ask for his help and try to change.
